What She Doesn't Know by Lina Gardiner

What's the genre? What is it you like or don't like about this cover? Does it make you want to know more about the book? Does it make you want to BUY the book? Discuss.

  1. This is a short mystery set in the Bay of Fundy, and the cover really reflects the story, I think. It's misty and dark with fog, typical of the NB coastline, and the lady running shows some fear and confusion. The NB islands can be beautiful and picturesque during the day, but when night falls and that fog rolls in, it can be quite scary. The cover gives the impression of some deep dark mystery and it makes you want to flip thru and find out what it's all about. I think it's a great cover. Congrats to both author and artist. They understand one another very well.

  2. Marge, this is cover art review site not the sales pitch site.

This is a reasonably good cover. My problem is like so many that we see here it was designed for the printed page not for e-book. That small text at the top can NOT be read in thumbnail format. I would suggest to also make the other text bigger. There is plenty of space for it.

The yellow blob of light, upper left, seems a bit bright for this cover. I would try to tone it down and match the area around the girl.

  3. The gray tones paired with the yellow make me think of an old photo and somthing to do with the past. I can feel despair here. Her back to us suggests she's running away, or into trouble. The title suggests the later.

The only thing I'd do differently is place the Prism logo on there, instead of framing the photo with small print. Leave the small print for inside the cover.

  4. If somebody let me loose of Goddess of CAR, I'd be smiting the fan squee posters. Smite thee! :)

I like a lot of this cover. It gives an appropriate feeling of suspense and mystery. I like the typography and placement, though I agree with Eric that the text above the title is unreadable in this size for ebooks.

My problem is a subtle photoshop one. I do not like that the girl is transparent and has a tree showing right through her vertically. Somehow that is distracting. I would have made her more solid, at least in the middle of her body.
