Runner by Merrill Heath
What's the genre? What is it you like or don't like about this cover?
Does it make you want to know more about the book? Does it make you want
to BUY the book? Discuss.
Well, I'm guessing it's fiction, but to be honest this looks, at first glance, like a non-fiction cover - for a book about running! I like the typeface and the size/layout of the elements, but I wouldn't pick this up in a book shop. Genre - thriller, I guess.
The red at the top looks more like paint spatter than blood to me, and the shoes look kind of old and yucky. I don't know; it's close but somehow doesn't quite work for me. I do like the typeface for the author name and title, but the sizes are so close that it almost looks like the title is "Merrill Heath Runner" instead of Runner, by Merrill Heath.
Also, it's hard to tell, but does the cover not bleed? The cover should bleed...
The covers lets you know right away what the book is about. The red emits emotion and the shoes tell a tale of their own. Good job.

The cover is very straight forward and I think that it does the job for a thriller novel.
ReplyDeleteI also agree with Robin that the splatter looks like paint not blood. I would like to see that fixed.
Thanks for the feedback, guys. Good points to consider when tweaking this one.
