The Patriots of Mars by Jeff Faria
What's the genre? What is it you like or don't like about this cover?
Does it make you want to know more about the book? Does it make you want
to BUY the book? Discuss.
Genre Sci Fi and I really, really like this cover.
Not only are the typfaces appropriate, but very well designed. See how Patriots matches the width of Mars? LOVE the "of" in the simple transparent circle.
Next, the sub is a lovely tall condensed, with a very subtle lightly embossed rectangle, then the author name, light and with very wide character spacing.
The letters have a subtle gradient and just a bit of texture, with just enough sheen to make them look like steel.
This folks, is good typography! And a superb example of less is more in a book cover.
If I had one tiny nit pick, it would be that for me personally seeing just a bit more variation in the red of the Mars surface would have been nice. but it's very difficult to fault this one.
I agree with Robin, with the exception of the author's name. It will be unreadable in a thumbnail. While it might be less artistically appealing, as an advertizement, and to get the readers to associate the author with a memory of a good read, it must be larger.

Shows that show that a simple cover can be good.
ReplyDeleteI agree with Robin, great type. Love the circle drop shadow behind the text.
