Howl of the Wolf by Diane Rapp
What's the genre? What is it you like or don't like about this cover?
Does it make you want to know more about the book? Does it make you want
to BUY the book? Discuss.
The graphics on this cover are the best out of all your covers.
The title font should be larger and centered if on one line because you have nothing moving into the space on the right to balance it. You could also move it into the left block of sky and have 2-3 lines for the title.
Your name should be a larger and centered so the wolf stands out and is not crowded. The yellow font works. It ties into the sky. White would also work well.

I don't mind the green dome. I don't like the wolf; he's not a very good wolf outline, and his simplistic lines don't go well with the ornate and subtle background.
The typography is obviously the amateur part of the cover. I agree with centering, and I'm not a big fan of the typeface; I'd go with something more simple, perhaps a sans-serif, to balance out that complex background.
I actually like the background and wolf. I think the title and author name should be centered and maybe enlarge title a bit. You might could even try stacking and left-justifying the title if you really want to keep your name on the right.
No problem at all with the cover. Thinking it is nature story, but not sure. If I saw it in the bookstore/internet, I would find out more about Howl of the Wolf. Might purchase. Title remeinds me of one of my favorite books, I Heard the Owl Call my name.
I'm new to this site, and feeling out of my depth, because I don't have the first clue about the technicalities of cover design - so consider my opinion that of your average reader on Amazon browsing through the e-book listings. I don't know what the genre of this is - being a horror fan, my first impression is 'werewolves', but then I quickly think that isn't right. Second guess - like someone else said, a nature story. I like the modesty of the author - she has her name in a relatively small font in one corner of the cover. Judging by the other comments, that is probably not The Done Thing, but to me, it's like the author is saying, "Never mind me - it's the story that's important."
Nice. :)
ReplyDeleteThe yellow is bit a weird shade and the font maybe a bit too small. Other than that, nice mood, work and suits the title.
I would make the fonts a little bigger, but the cover over all is good.

genre: werewolf story.
ReplyDeleteThe artwork seems to be out of proportion for a regular book and e-book, it just seem a bit too wide. I would suggest that you double check.
I'm not sure about the green dome in the center of the artwork (that's what it looks like).
I don't like the text work. It's too small and it just doesn't jump off the page.
