  1. I love the cover. It makes me curious. I'd definitely check out the story. Genre? Romance definitely. Comedy? Espionage? Something political? Makes me want to find out.

  2. It looks like some kind of political romance. I wouldn't check it out but then I'm not a romance reader. Not a bad cover.

  3. Sorry, but I think thia cover looks like non-fiction, some kind of financial advice.

  4. I'm thinking retro, like maybe a 60s mainstream story based on what the man & woman are wearing. Also, the style is quite 60s, like minimalist or Op Art of that decade. If that's the look you're going for and if it fits the era of your novel, you're spot on. However, if the story is contemporary, I think you missed the mark.

  5. I get the feeling of a political romance & comedy from this cover.

I would agree with Karen that I also get a retro feel from this. Maybe because of the opening credits of "Mad Men". I'm not feeling anything contemporary.

  6. I see a romance with a political theme...not really able to tell if it would be contemporary, comical, or what...but I can see where the retro feel of it leads you to believe it's a 60's type theme.

I like the cover though :)

  7. I'm with Eric in that I immediately thought of "Mad Men." I think this is a good cover, eye-catching, and interesting...unless you DON'T want people to see it as a retro, Mad Men type of novel.

  8. I'm going to be the dissenting voice here and say I'm not thrilled with this cover. Ya'll are gonna start calling me the font nazi, because I talk about them all the time. But typeface is so critical to the overall look of a cover. I love the color of this cover, and the artwork is kind of cool and retro. But for me the typeface doesn't say 50s or Mad Men. It does not match the artwork.

For this cover, I'd think a sans serif font would work really well. Good old Helvetica might give just the right retro feel, or maybe Futura. Just a thought.

  9. I like the stark contrasts of color. There is a disconnect between the title and the image. What does "a rock" have to do with a rotunda? I would think an outline of the rock of Gibraltar would fit better. The image says it's a political-based novel; the title says comedy.

  10. I feel yelled at by the all caps, all one size lettering title.

  11. Great feedback everyone!
I'm starting to re-think the lettering for the title myself. I want it to be bold, but not overwhelming.
Thanks a million for the comments so far!

Cover Artist: Neringa Bryannt (don't blame her for the title font--my idea!)

  12. I love the styalized Mad Men feel of this one. I would read it based on the cover. You get the contemporary feel with a bit of humor.
