The Watcher by Jo Robertson
What's the genre? What is it you like or don't like about this cover? Does it make you want to know more about the book? Does it make you want to BUY the book? Discuss.
Mystery/Thriller for the genre, though it says "romantic thriller." The cover does not at all convey romance to me.
I really like this cover. Love the typeface and its placement, except I'd probably drop the romantic thriller line, too small.
My only niggle on the artwork is that the top and bottom don't really meld together too well. The top is abstract and graphical, the bottom is, well, a photo of a shed. I think the shed photo could benefit from some photoshop work to make it more graphical and to darken it up a bit to not be quite so much a contrast to the top.
While the cover could probably do with some professional polish, it's pretty good and I'd take a look at it if I were a romantic thriller reader. I would make the "romantic thriller" a bit larger rather than removing it. It is too small, but I like having the genre on the cover, especially if it isn't absolutely obvious and the "romantic" isn't.
I'd make the title much bigger and put it at the top and move the author's name down where the title is now. If you keep the tagline move it up under the title and make it a little bigger.
I like the font and the colors. I'm not sure how the shed fits in, but that makes it kind of intriguing.
If you look at this cover and the one just above it... "The Blood Mesa". Compare the size of the text between the two. The Blood Mesa, has the better size font for book covers.

romantic thriller? OK, interesting.
ReplyDeleteI agree with the point that Merrill has already stated. I would increase the size of the fonts much more and do the other things as well.
