Right now, The Blood Mesa and all the other books in The Dead Man series are on sale for $.99. Just in time for Halloween! Check them out.
What's the genre? What is it you like or don't like about this cover? Does it make you want to know more about the book? Does it make you want to BUY the book? Discuss.
I like the graphic and the man with the hatchet as the A in DEAD. But I'm confused. Just by looking at the cover, I'd assume that "The Dead Man" is the name of the series. But who is the author(s) - Lee Goldberg and William Rabkin or James Reasoner? Did Goldberg and Rabkin create the series and Reasoner wrote this book? Or is James Reasoner the main character in the series?
ReplyDeleteThe genre appears to be suspense/thriller. It's a very eye-catching cover and I'd pick it up to learn more about it...if for no other reason than to get answers to my questions above.
I can't figure out who the author is and what the book name is. Is it The Dead Man? Is it The Blood Mesa? And there are three different author names.
ReplyDeleteI like the overall cover design; the graphic, the skull. I think the type treatment on Blood Mesa is particularly well done. But overall I'd be scratching my head over what is what for the book.
The cover is beautiful & well done, but i agree about the title & authors. I don't get it. Who wrote the book? And which title is the title of the book? Very confusing.
ReplyDeleteSuspense thriller is my guess on genre.
I also have to agree with everyone else. The art and graphics are good, but having the text "James Reasoner" so big at the bottom makes thing confusing. Was this book written by him or is he the main character. If he is the character is that needed?
ReplyDeleteFor some reason, this gives me the feeling it is suspense/horror. Being an avid scaredy cat, I'd probably not go for the book based on the cover.
ReplyDeleteAs with the others, I'm a bit confused about the author. It seems there may be an attempt to brand the book with a character name or a couple of character names the way James Patterson's Alex Cross books were branded by the name "Alex Cross".
Whoa. Seriously creepy cover. I assume it's a thriller. Very well done cover but I have the same problems as everyone else with the title & authors' name(s?) being confusing.
ReplyDeleteHi everyone. The Dead Man is the name of the series, which was created by Lee Goldberg and William Rabkin. The Blood Mesa is the title of this particular book, which was written by James Reasoner.
ReplyDeleteThanks, Jude. That's what I figured. In that case, I'd drop the names of the authors who created the series and change the tagline to read "Book # in The Dead Man Series" or something like that.
ReplyDeleteAre Lee Goldberg and William Rabkin well-known enough that it warrants putting their names on the cover?
They're well-known television writers in L.A., and Lee is well-known for his Monk novels. The series was recently picked up by Amazon's 47 North imprint, and was re-launched Oct 24 in a promotion leading up to Halloween. The books are selling really well, so hopefully everyone involved will be well-known soon!
ReplyDeleteYeah, I knew who Lee was, but not William Rabkin. Interesting. I may have to check this one out.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the info Jude. However, I think most of us had to figure that out, but that sort of is the point. If we have to spend a lot of time trying to figure this out then that is a fail of the cover. Adding the words "Created by" or something like that would clear up the whole problem.
