A Clockwork Fairytale by Helen Scott Taylor

What's the genre? What is it you like or don't like about this cover? Does it make you want to know more about the book? Does it make you want to BUY the book? Discuss.

  1. The cover says it is a "paranormal romance" so that answers that, but I thing that is too difficult to read. I'm sure it would be impossible in thumbnail. The white font is particularly difficult to read and the title and author name kind of fade into the photo.

Lookint at it, I probably would have guessed steampunk rather than paranormal and I really couldn't figure out what is up with her face, looks a bit squinchy.

  2. I'm sorry to say this but I do not like this cover. The cover image doesn't really tell me what genre this is or make me want to learn more.

The title text is way too hard to read in thumbnail. Also the little blurb on the right hand side is too small to read.

I would suggest to start over.

  3. Hi J.R. Tomlin and Eric. Thank you for taking time to comment. And thank you to Jude for including my book cover on the blog. It is always difficult to look at one's book cover objectively so this is really useful. I've been wondering about the title font because although I love it, I know it's difficult to read. Seeing Eric's comment, I might go back to the drawing board and try something completely different. Thanks again. Helen

  4. Dear Helen, We are here to help each other. Our hard comments are to help you and to help you sell more copies of your book. Think of your cover as an advertisement for your book.

  5. I agree with all the comments, except that I need to add that her face just looks dirty to me. I guess it's supposed to be some kind of subtle tattoo? I like her, and I really want to like the cover. It's just not quite there yet.

  6. Love the colors, the model and the pose, but the title is difficult to read and the tattoos on her checks come across as smudges. Looking forward to reading this story.
