The Gift of Joy by Valerie Maarten

What's the genre? What's the logline? What is it you like or don't like about this cover? Does it make you want to know more about the book? Does it make you want to BUY the book? Discuss.

  1. I would say that this is a holiday / Christmas book.

I like the concept of the cover but not liking the text for the title or the name. Both are hard to read in the thumbnail. The lettering needs to pop more off the background. The letters either need a drop-shadow effect and/or some sort of outlining to help them.

  2. A woman named Joy lies under the tree Christmas morning wearing nothing but ribbons and bows. Her boyfriend accepts the "gift," but what he really wanted was an iPad.

    Just kidding.

I never thought it was such a bad little cover. It's not bad at all, really. Maybe it just needs a little love.

  3. To S.J. Harris

That has to be the funniest review I have seen so far on the whole blog.

  4. Cute holiday story! But very difficult to read the text.

  5. SJ's logline has put anything else out of my mind.

This is an attractive cover, and it's clearly a Christmas story, but it feels like something's missing. I'm not sure what it is; imagery that would give more information about the story itself, maybe.

  6. I don't like it. The text is too small to read. I can barely make out the title, but I can't read the author's name at all. Looks like Valene Maarten, but I assume it says Valerie?

To me, it looks like a Christmas story for kids 6-12.
