Cyberdrome by Joseph and David Rhea

What's the genre? What is it you like or don't like about this cover? Does it make you want to know more about the book? Does it make you want to BUY the book? Discuss.

  1. The genre is easy on this one: science fiction. The text looks a little cramped. At thumbnail size the authors' names are a little hard to read. In black-and-white, there's not quite enough contrast in the image. The robots are very cool looking, but it would be nice if the car thing were less cartoony and more detailed like the robots. Still, it's an appealing cover with a good feel of motion, and the pale blue curved line draws my eye into the book. I'd pick it up to look at the blurb.

  2. The genre is obvious. And I like the font. It goes well with the genre and title. But I agree that there's not enough contrast. The background is so dark it's hard to see the images.

  3. Like the other said it's clearly science fiction.

It looks like a professional cover. It reminds me of covers from the 1980's and there is nothing wrong with that.

The title is just a bit hard to read. I agree that the spacing needs to be increased just a bit.

  4. Clearly science fiction. Not my thing, but it looks professionally-done.

  5. It's interesting how different things look on different monitors. At work this looks very dark and hard to make out. But on my laptop at home it looks really good. Plenty of contrast and the images are easy to see. Something to keep in mind for all of us when we develop our covers.

  6. I'm not a science fiction fan, but I like the colors and the composition and the pulp feel to this cover. I think it will help sell books.

  7. I am a science fiction fan. I would say this falls into the subcategory of hard science fiction, with a tech-oriented plotline. The art style evokes some of the hard-edged pure space art which was a particular thread of sf illustration starting in the early '70s. I'd like to know who the artist is.

The story seems well implied, and the cover is clean and readable. I would expect this to be a conflict-filled, tech-filled book, maybe taking place in a virtual reality. There is a suggestion of good-guy cops in the car in the foreground, and the black, spidery things with the red glow at front are probably the antagonists.

  8. definitely a sci-fi book. I really like the artwork and the graphics. Makes me curious to know what those mechanical spiders are up to. I don't generally read sci-fi but I might just check this book out.
