The Lover by Cathleen Ross
What's the genre? What is it you like or don't like about this cover? Does it make you want to know more about the book? Does it make you want to BUY the book? Discuss.
Very nice. I'd say erotica for genre. I'm not sure why exactly, but there's something about the style of the art, the models poses & hair, that says 80s to me. Maybe because it's the old-fashioned clench pose that was so popular in the 70s & 80s. Regardless, it still does the job. :)
Thanks for the helpful comments. Yes it is erotica. It's the second cover I've designed for my self published Forbidden Fantasy series, so it's good to hear how I can improve in the future. Thanks again. Best Cathleen
Lovely cover! Says erotica or erotic romance to me and I'm the target market. :)
But I think the suggestion to move the title to the top is a good one. I love the title font, and I think the impact would be stronger if it was at the top and the author name at the bottom.
I am not the target market for this book, but it's clearly erotica with maybe some romance tossed in.
ReplyDeleteOverall a good cover, personally I would put the title at the book at the top and the author's name at the bottom, but that is a minor point.
I would also think about a font change on the author's name. I would think that a softer font might fit the cover better.
Whoa. That's.... hot. LOVE the art. Like the title font (and don't have any preference whether author is at top or bottom).
ReplyDeleteEric, I think the author typeface could be salvaged by setting it with wider letterspacing and maybe making it a bit shorter vertically.
Overall a really good cover that portrays its genre very well. If I was wanting romantic erotica I'd be grabbing this one!

ReplyDeleteNot my genre, that's for sure. I don't care for the art myself but that's a personal thing. Obviously other posters find it appealing.
ReplyDeleteI think if the title is going to be at the bottom it should be bolder so it stands out better, but it's probably a decent cover for this genre.

ReplyDeleteThanks again.

Love the artwork. I mean HOLY COW! WOOHOO!!
ReplyDeleteI really love the artwork for this cover. It shows the genre, it's a hot cover, the font type is good and so is the colours. Great stuff, Cathleen.
ReplyDeleteThanks Cynthia and Eleni for weighing in. Good to know what a real cover designer thinks.
