The Chemist by Chris Blewitt

What's the genre? What is it you like or don't like about this cover? Does it make you want to know more about the book? Does it make you want to BUY the book? Discuss.

  1. I like this cover. It looks professional and is effective.

At first, I was perplexed about the whiskey barrels and couldn't relate barrels with chemistry and then it came to me... Oh, the chemist makes moonshine!

    Did I get it right?

  2. I like this also. The artwork is very professional, could be a painting or an artistic photo. I like the color and font selection of the text. It's intriguing. I would certainly read the description or blurb on this one.

As for genre, I'm guessing general fiction or perhaps tragedy.

  3. Fascinating cover - I love it. Not sure of the genre; might be general fiction. But I'm curious about the "based on a true story" line under the title.

Gisele may have it, and if she's right (chemist making moonshine), I might be buying this one.

  4. If you're still trying to guess the blurb, discontinue reading this post. Thanks for the comments and you are spot on! This IS based on a true story about a specific event that happened during prohibition. Here is a link to the AMZN page: http://tinyurl.com/6aba2ke

Keep the comments coming - thanks!

  5. (Eric-) I think that this is a very good piece of artwork but it doesn't say moonshine or prohibition to me. When I saw the barrels I thought maybe wine.

I would suggest that you make the smaller text stand out the a little bit more. Parts of it get lost in the window.

  6. I didn't get moonshine or prohibition from this cover, either. As a matter of fact, I thought of wine making in Europe somewhere, but that may be just because my brother recently returned from a trip to Ireland and I've been looking at lots of photos of stone walls and "Old World" stuff.

When I think of prohibition I think of guns and rum runners and speakeasies. Images that depict action. This is much more sedate.

But I still like the cover.

  7. Interesting, thanks for the comments.
It had a great 1st month but sales are lackluster in July. Maybe I'll experiment a bit.
    thanks

  8. Just me, but I'd let it ride for at least 3 months before changing anything. I tend to think long-term rather than short-term. We're only 2 weeks into July, with a major holiday thrown in. Let it ride until the end of the month, at least. You may see a rebound by then.

  9. Wine barrels are about a third smaller, these are whiskey barrels. However, I was lucky because it was my general knowledge of barrels that guided me from whiskey barrels + chemistry = moonshine. People who are unfamiliar with barrels, wouldn't be able to jump to that conclusion.

Although I like this cover, I agree with the others, this cover is saying "prohibition" in a rather subliminal way. The prohibition era aspect needs to be a little more evident.
