If You Go Into the Woods by David Gaughran
What's the genre? What is it you like or don't like about this cover? Does it make you want to know more about the book? Does it make you want to BUY the book? Discuss.
I think this is a horror or a thriller. I'm reminded of Poe's, The Raven. With the stark tones of black and white and that splash of red, the cover is simple but striking. Nicely done.
This cover makes me think of "Peter and the Wolf" which I enjoyed very much. It kind of has that reticent sinister feel to it. Could be innocent but also could be dark and dangerous.
That's pretty good. I'm the author, and my sister did the cover (she's great). It's a two-story collection of creepy, quirky tales. Not quite horror, but definite sinister undertones that you can't quite put your finger on. Like a dark fairytale.
Amazing that you pretty much guessed that from the cover.
The art is really gorgeous. This would make a good poster. Only the red eye of the bird makes me suspect that the content is, as David said, horror. Since woods and birds factor in lots of Brothers Grimm fairy tales, I would come out expecting something of that type.

ReplyDeleteNice, clean and fairly simple. Definitely says spooky though I wouldn't quite say horror. I like it.

ReplyDeleteIn short, I like this cover.
Alright!

Great cover, David! It looks to be hand-drawn, which automatically makes it stand out from the crowd. First-rate, IMO.
ReplyDeleteHey Jude,
ReplyDeleteIt's actually a very clever composite of several different stock photos, believe it or not. No drawing involved.
Dave
Love the cover! It reminds me a tiny bit of "Of Bees and Mist" which I bought mainly because I loved the cover. :-)
ReplyDeleteGREAT job on the cover art, David! It is gorgeous! I would have guess exactly what said it was! Completely eye catching! Totally got my click-through!
