The Wicked Heroine by Jasmine Giacomo

What's the genre? What is it you like or don't like about this cover? Does it make you want to know more about the book? Does it make you want to BUY the book? Discuss.

  1. I like it. The title and author stand out clearly, and while the image doesn't scream fantasy in the usual 'elves and dragons' manner the tag line leads me to suspect that's the genre. The image is simple and I would imagine ties to the story. It reduces well and I particularly like the font, which has a unique look but doesn't take away from the readability. The image doesn't give me any real hint of the story, but then again neither do many of the stereotypical sword and sorcery images more commonly found. This cover isn't trying to include every character from the story in one epic scene but takes a more subtle approach that leads me to believe the writing may break new ground as well.

  2. I like it, as well, for the same reasons cegrundler stated.

  3. I like it too. It's clearly a fantasy story aimed toward women, and the use of wicked in the title is intriguing. The glowing orb shows that there will be powerful magic for the heroine to cope with, and it makes me want to buy the book and share her adventure.

  4. I enjoy the fact that this is an understated cover. The overused depictions of elves, castles and surreal landscapes are gone. This is a refreshing take on a fantasy novel.

I like everything about this cover. The design, the colors, the font. It looks professional. Two thumbs up.

(And now for some unsolicited advice, proceed with caution):

I read the product description on Amazon and I have to say that it didn't grab me (sorry!). It is not... dynamic.

Nothing from the current description separates this novel from the multitude of other fantasy novels that revolve around the threat of evil forces controlling the world and the heroine's journey as she tries to save it from such a grim fate.

It think it's because the description is only giving me a summary using very broad strokes. From such a wide angle, it resembles any other fantasy novel. My suggestion is to zoom in on the story so that this specific universe and it's particulars characters with their singular personalities shine through.

Take this as just my personal opinion.

  5. I like the title, color scheme and placement of objects. However, I feel it's a little plain. I would like something a little more kinetic going on :)

  6. This strikes me as an excellent, professional looking cover, with a strong graphic and easy to read title. I think the genre is fantasy, probably high fantasy but possibly paranormal/urban or comic fantasy.

  7. Great job. I can't think of anything to change. Clearly its a fantasy of some sort.

  8. *tear* She took my advice :) - So yay, I love it :D

  9. Fantasy, from the glowing orb and the word "legend" in the title. Resizes very well, title and author still legible as a thumbnail. It's a bit... purple for my taste, but that's quite arbitrary. Not everyone hates Barney with the rabid fanaticism I have.

    Really good, appropriate font.
