A Heart in Sun & Shadow by Annie Bellet

What's the genre? What's the logline? What is it you like or don't like about this cover? Does it make you want to know more about the book? Does it make you want to BUY the book? Discuss.

  1. I think that the cover needs a little bit more PhotoShop work.

I see why you do the shift, green to black, in the title text however it make the title hard to read.

The reason why your woman's image doesn't look quite right is because the light for the background is coming from one direction and her light is from the other.

I would guess that the genre is romantic fantasy.

  2. I agree with Eric's comments. Another thing that bothers me a little is the woman's body language. She looks so uncomfortable. It makes me uncomfortable. And she seems to unbalance the image. Maybe she's riding a bit too high.

  3. Looks kind of like bad special effects from the 70s. Do over!

  4. I'm posting from my Kindle, so all I can see is the b&w version. The model does seem nervous, as though she might be in an angsty YA novel, and the text is difficult to read. It might work better to use a solid color behind the text.

  5. It is fantasy romance (fairytale fantasy specifically), so you got that correct.

    Thank you for your comments.

  6. I'm not crazy about the font. I think it would be easier to read if the font was fatter. I actually do like this cover, and I do want to buy the book. I don't think she looks uncomfortable. I think she's lovely. The worst thing about the cover is that it doesn't really tell me much about the book. I think it might be a paranormal romance, but I have no way to know for sure.

  7. My guess is fantasy romance.

There's something about the model that's disconcerting. I'm not sure what it is, but she almost seems in pain. The way she's standing, maybe?
