Daring to Trust by Trisha Wilson

What's the genre? What is it you like or don't like about this cover? Does it make you want to know more about the book? Does it make you want to BUY the book? Discuss.

  1. I really can't tell what genre this book is. Is it a romance, spiritual or, something else?

The layout is only so-so. I have some problems with the text. The title needs to be a bit smaller; it feels to close to the edge. I hate the button in the middle it looks very unprofessional. Why is the name not centered like the title?

  2. This doesn't appeal to me.

It reminds me too much of a tabloid newspaper: The black/white/red colours, the font, the call-caps titles, etc.
I don't read tabloids, so the association isn't an appealing one.

Maybe tabloid readers will actually be drawn to this.

About the genre, I'm unsure. Contemporary YA, perhaps.

  3. I'm not sure what genre either but my first impression was some kind of biography.

I'd rather see it in a horizontal format, not vertical. The girl looks like she's been stretched vertically. Also, the red is a little menacing -- if it's not suspenseful I think a different color might be better. I suppose that's subjective, just me.

  4. I don't mind the vertical layout, but the balance is totally off; the left too empty and the right too cluttered, the left too calm, the right too jangly/hectic.

I think the person on the left is too small, I'd increase the size dramatically. I don't think the vertical red line is helpful, second that the typeface of the title is far too big and crowded, and the double box thing looks like a computer/typewriter key graphic.

Unfortunately for me this would be a complete redo.

  5. This looks slapped together, IMO, without much attention to the design. It seems more like a newspaper ad than a book cover, and that's not necessarily a bad thing since a book cover is basically an advertisement for what's inside. But in this case, the cover doesn't tell a story. And that framed button really must go. I have no guess as to genre. I agree this needs a redo.
