Journey Into Darkness by S.J. Harris

What's the genre? What is it you like or don't like about this cover? Does it make you want to know more about the book? Does it make you want to BUY the book? Discuss.

  1. Um.
    Uhh...hmmm...
I can see the author name and title clearly, but as for genre, hmmm...uh...no clue. Unfortunately, I would probably have to pass on this as something that would interest me because I'd probably spend more time trying to fingure out what all that is behind the title and name to be interested in the novel content.

  2. I sort of have the "hmmm" reaction too. I like the typeface and the way it's grunged/distressed very much. But I'm not really thrilled with the purple and green and I can't figure out what the purple blob is supposed to BE. If anything.

It looks perhaps more lit fic than any genre, though I guess maybe it's supposed to be horror?

I don't mind an abstract cover, but I think this one teeters a bit between abstract and reality in a way that just gets confusing.

  3. Can't tell the genre. Not even a guess but the color combination is... awful. Yuck. Sorry, but that's my reaction. I'd go to another page as soon as possible.

  4. I'd guess it's a psychological thriller. I'm not a fan of yellow and purple, even though they're supposed to be complementary colours. Maybe it the colours were more muted they'd be more attractive. I looked at the cover in the bigger version and realised that the background is flaking paint or disintegrating paper, but that really isn't clear in this size. Even in the larger size, where you can see writing, there's not enough there to give a clue what it's supposed to be.
