Changeling by Morgan Gallagher

What's the genre? What's the logline? What is it you like or don't like about this cover? Does it make you want to know more about the book? Does it make you want to BUY the book? Discuss.

  1. Ooo, I like! Some kind of spec fic, but I'm not sure if it's involving fae, shapeshifters, or some other kind of changeling.

It does make me interested in checking out the book, though.

The C in the title looks kinda like a moon to me, which is neat, but I think the font could be better. It makes me wonder if the creator has the proper licensure for the font, because it looks like it might be one of those standard ones that come free with your computer for non-commercial purposes.

  2. I really like the graphic, layout, and colors for this cover. Very eye-catching. But Carradee makes and interesting point about the font. While this isn't bad, I think there might be something that would work a little better. Maybe something with a little texture, like the face in the graphic. I wouldn't change the author's name - that font is fine - just the font for the title.

Overall, I'd say this is a very good, professional-looking cover.

  3. (Eric – Still can’t post using my Google ID)

I think that the artwork is great and the over all cover is very good.

The tag line is just way too small to work for a thumbnail. I would suggest, moving it and making it bigger or just plain losing it.

The big letter C doesn’t bother me, but you might want to play with it. I do however really like the typeface that you picked. Very clean and readable.

  4. Thank you all for your comments. It's a vampire book, with a difference. And yes, it's a standard font, but it's the one I wanted, and the graphic artist went with it. We went through a lot of them. I also chose the colour, actually made it on photoshop, to match the warming up we did of the original image, which was played about with, a lot. (Colour, detail)

Changeling refers to a vampire Changeling, but it's not a chosen change, or one the person wanted in any sense. So the darkness should be there, I hope! :-)

The tagline was deliberately left too small to read on thumbprint scale, to encourage a click... to read the larger version. :-)
