Sold on You by Sophia Knightly

What's the genre? What is it you like or don't like about this cover? Does it make you want to know more about the book? Does it make you want to BUY the book? Discuss.

  1. The red is eye-catching.
There's too much text on the cover for my taste, though.

  2. She isn't in a submissive pose which is unusual enough to catch my attention and get some approval (pet peeve) but how do her breasts stick out like that while appearing to be pressed against him?

I have to agree with Rayne that the red background with the red dress is rather overkill and there's an awful lot of text. I've seen worse covers but this could use some tweaking,

  3. genre = romance.

I don't like the red dress on the red background. They are two close the same color and anything below her arms is blending together.

Rayne is correct, WAY too much text for the e-book thumbnail. Most of it need to go away.

The author's name text need something more. The text is blending in with the guy's neck. Can you read the last two letters? Even the "On" is blending in with her arm. More of an outline or a drop shadow would help fix this.

  4. Yikes, part of the author's name get's lost in male model's head. Make it smaller so that it fits on just the red and this will be a great cover. Until then it's... hm. Very busy. Too much text. I do like the colors. Very bold. Genre = romance

  5. An interesting F.Y.I... Sophia Knightly's romantic suspense cover for WILD FOR YOU just won first place in the romantic suspense category of the Judge a Book by its Cover contest. It looks a lot like this one.

    1. I don't see much similarity, except both are cluttered with far too much writing.
Btw, I have my reservations about the merits of 'best cover' contests where the person with most friends wins.

    2. You don't see the similarity? Wow, I guess it's just me. I only posted the link to this contest's results because I thought it interesting and figured others here might also be amused. Cover contests are nothing more than a popularity contest.

  6. I agree there's way too much text on the cover for an ebook. And I'm not sure whether it's too much red, or that the reds actually don't match. Look at her dress. The red is more orangey than the red in the background. the background is very flat.

The masking job on her hair is also clumsily done; hair is really hard, but she has a halo around her head, especially the strands hanging in front of her shoulder. This makes them look like, well, cardboard cutouts on a flat background.

  7. Thanks for taking a look at my cover. In response to the commenter who said "I have my reservations about the merits of 'best cover' contests where the person with most friends wins." -- the judges for the Judge A Book By Its Cover contest are booksellers from the USA, Canada, the UK, Australia, and New Zealand. They are not readers. WILD FOR YOU won best cover in the romantic suspense category. http://bit.ly/zXCGj3

There is another contest on that site judged by readers only, but that is not the one that WILD FOR YOU won.
