  3. Historical, maybe a pirate story.

Overall this is not a bad cover but I am going to do my famous picking of nits.

I love the artwork in the background, it's gorgeous. However, I have a little disconnect with him. His face is a little TOO cut off for me, plus he's a photograph against a painterly background; would have looked better IMO if he had a painterly affect applied as well. Photographs and historicals don't really work together. And he's small. With the dark sea and his dark jacket, everything looks a little pushed to the bottom of the cover. I would have made him larger and perhaps flipped him to the other side.

The title typeface good, but it too is a little small and it is slid over to the right, giving the cover an unbalanced look that is further reinforced by the odd way the author name is done. I don't like the left align/right align of that at all, for me it would look better all on one line or centered, then center the title below it.

As I say, not a bad cover and with a few tweaks it could be very nice indeed.

  4. Love it! Is this a brand new Marsha Canham book? A sweeping, magnificent historical pirate romance in the tradition of Iron Rose, perhaps? Can't wait to read!

  5. I love this cover. Marsha is known for her swashbuckling pirate stories and this is a perfect representation. I can almost feel the sea spray!

  6. Makes me yawn. It's pretty, but there's nothing distinctive about it, and that leads me to think that the text inside might be more of the same. It's technically competent, but there's nothing in the imagery that spurs curiosity. A face and some ships. All antiqued and brown. Ho-hum.

  8. Marsha Canham is known for her bold, swashbuckling romances. The colors and feel of this cover are perfect for her writing. Readers who are drawn to her stories will gobble this up. And how exciting to have a brand new, never before published pirate romance by Marsha Canham!

  9. This cover beckons fans of pirate romances to climb aboard. Who can resist a gorgeous man with such a dangerous gleam in his eye? Marsha Canham is famous for her swashbuckling pirate romances and this one looks to be another great story of adventure and romance on the high seas -- as only Marsha Canham can tell it!

  10. Another fabulous, artistic cover by Marsha Canham. It tells the reader this will be another swashbuckling, seafaring, adventure, with a to-die for hero. The cover model is another plus--I don't think I've seen him before.

  11. I agree the Anonymous above (not me)--it's technically nice, but generic. There is nothing compelling on the cover. The title is rather dull: a following sea is friendly and helps you get wher eyou are going faster--where's the excietment in that?
I don't see romance in the cover at all. The sunset/sepaia tones make me want to take a nap.

I don't know the author, and I am probably not the target market, but I thought I would be a voice that was actually critical and not simply fawning.

  12. Good Cover. yes, the layout is basic, but it is very well done.

I would suggest upping the small text below the title by about 10% but that really is minor.

  13. I do really like this cover, but I agree with Robin that it would look better if the guy had a slight painted effect to him. Also if the whole thing were tinted another color than brown.
