Lifethread by L.J. Charles

What's the genre? What is it you like or don't like about this cover? Does it make you want to know more about the book? Does it make you want to BUY the book? Discuss.

  1. The cover is simple but elegant. I love the contrast of the dark and a single point of light. I would think science fiction just from looking at the cover.

  2. What Jill said, LOL. And my pick for genre would be SciFi, too.

  3. I'd also say science fiction. It's attractive, but oddly enough wouldn't urge me to look more closely. It has a new agey feel that I find off-putting, especially with the title. But the same thing might appeal to some people though.

  4. This proves that simple can be good. It is easy to read and eye catching at the same time.

  5. It's a great start, but not fully realized. It's like an unfinished idea that has potential. I think reversing the type out of the background image would be much more striking. That white block around the type is distracting and leeches the power out of the image. I agree about scifi. Or possibly a nonfic about philosophy or metaphysics.

  6. This cover is an eye-grabber! I love the iridescent rays of the sun contrasting with the black background.
    Good luck with your book!

  7. This cover is a good example of a compelling piece of clipart with inadequate typface knowledge/treatment.

For one thing, the title is actually off center. The letters are too jammed together, and the drop shadow is too harsh. Actually there is no need for a drop shadow with black text on a white background. The typeface doesn't match the rest of the subject matter; I would have gone with a sans serif typeface.

I also think the white box is not needed. Text reversed out of the background would be striking.

The dropped J makes it appear smaller than the text. Overall, I would keep the image and discard the rest and start over.
