Dating My Vibrator by Suzanne Tyrpak

What's the genre? What is it you like or don't like about this cover? Does it make you want to know more about the book? Does it make you want to BUY the book? Discuss.

  1. Cool that you got the blurb from Konrath, but I doubt many men are going to buy this book, lol.

  2. I love the boldness of this cover! It doesn't matter the genre, it is eye-catching and will make people stop and look for the blurb.

  3. This is brilliant. The bow-tie clinches it. I don't even need to read the blurb. I'd buy it in a heart beat - actually, I think I already did.

  4. The picture by itself makes me think erotica, but he tag from J.A. Konrath spells it out as comedy. I like the visual appeal of the cover and think it works pretty well, even if I am somewhat confused about what I might find inside.

  5. When I saw this cover, the soundtrack in my head went POW! Very striking indeed.

At a first glance, I thought maybe erotica? But once I noticed the woman in the 50's (or is it 60's) garb and do, erotica didn't seem fitting. So I think this is a humorous tale about life after divorce and by the looks of it, she seems to be having fun. *grins*

My only suggestion for improvement is that the "And other true fiction" part isn't readable as a thumbnail. But that's not a deal breaker.

I'd like to mention that I just started reading the "Vestal Virgin" also by Suzanne Tyrpak (so today's cover was a nice surprise). I purchased the "Vestal Virgin" because I absolutely loved that cover!

    Cheers,

  6. For genre I'm going to say, creative nonfiction.

I love everything about this cover. It perfectly captures that mid-20th-century pulp feel, and does it so well that I suspect anything I might criticize is intentional.

I just realized I've been sitting here imagining the “Dating My Vibrator” situation comedy. It would come on right after “I Dream of Genie,” and have a laugh track and everything.

Now I'm imagining an alternate history where the launch of Playboy failed because everyone was talking about that new Dating My Vibrator true fiction magazine.

Suzanne, you've ruined my ability to concentrate! Probably a good thing.

  7. Ok, you have me intrigued. I laughed when I saw this cover!

    Thoughts:

Layout is great! I like the weird 40's-50's color shifted image.

The font may not be appropriate to that era, but I actually like it!

Too many font colors! Pick two. The blurb may be exempt from this rule, but the font in that location needs something to separate it from the man's suit. Maybe the blurb needs to be smaller, one line, and extend across the bottom - then it will be there and viewable, but not detract from the cover.

Since the cover image has such a strong color cast, perhaps you need to select *one* font color. Your book is not a clown. It's awesome. It doesn't need that much paint.

Otherwise, I kind of have to read this now... ;)

  8. Very good cover. I got comedy right away without reading the text. The text is crisp and clean and easy to read.

  9. Comedic non-fiction, sort of a Tucker Max for females. Very attention-getting, but I think the dark pink font in the headline gets lost.

  12. Thanks everyone! I really love my covers. This one, and the cover for Vestal Virgin, my novel, were designed by Jeroen ten Berge.

This cover has been BANNED ON FACEBOOK! You can see the "Safe for Facebook" cover on my FB Page http://www.facebook.com/pages/Suzanne-Tyrpak/144232238928903?ref=ts

Originally the design was tinted gray and the font was new courier--like an old typewriter, but I wanted it to look more "campy," so we changed the font. And, by popular vote (mostly by all the women I work with at the airport) the tint was changed to hot pink.

Hope you like the stories. (By the way, a lot of guys like the book--I think they feel better about themselves, just knowing they aren't the guys I write about!)
