I must admit I love this cover and the one for Freedom's Sword which I think has a similar feel to it.

They were both done by JT Lindroos.

I do think this shows the advantages of having a professional do your covers and it cost under $100 for the rights to the artwork (a 19th century etching) and the design.J. The tagline...A serious work of historical fiction. The tagline of "A Novel of Scotland" was a real -attention grabber for me as a Scotophile.
The woodcut-look to the artwork implies that this is serious novel, not light-hearted, that was well-researched.
The font has a nice period feel to it, without feeling cliche'.
The title itself is rather intriguing--one doesn't usually think of the 'cost' of a kingdom.
I actually already bought a copy for my Nook and will start reading it tomorrow on the train.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8175053073870042983.post-16580252514777584372011-07-03T21:14:05.663-07:002011-07-03T21:14:05.663-07:00(Eric-)

The text is very easy to read and the artwork really grabs your attention.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8175053073870042983.post-69461594828746299322011-07-03T17:46:27.595-07:002011-07-03T17:46:27.595-07:00Historical fiction.
I really, really should read ...Historical fiction.

I really, really should read more historical fiction and this looks like one I'd enjoy. The cover is very good; almost looks like an old woodcut or something (but very well done). I'm not very familiar with Scottish history beyond Robert the Bruce and William Wallace (do I sound like a typical American? lol).

Putting this on my Wishlist. :-)Nancy Beckhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/06214579721075450777noreply@blogger.com
